Venusians

Venusians are, in the Alien Archive, radiant, fully human-looking beings associated not with the scorching surface of the planet Venus but with its subtle, higher-dimensional or ancient energetic layers. The Archive describes them as emissaries of harmony, beauty and emotional balance, and as representatives of the "divine feminine." They are among the oldest of the modern extraterrestrial archetypes, going back to the 1950s contactee George Adamski. In Gnostic literature the planet Venus has a strikingly double character: it is one of the ruling planetary powers, yet the Pistis Sophia says that a power of Sophia herself was bound into it — and the "morning star" is, in Christian scripture, a title of Christ.

Gnostic perspective

Unlike most beings in the Archive, Venus itself actually appears in Gnostic texts — not as a home of visitors, but as one of the planetary powers of the cosmos. The Gnostic picture of Venus is ambivalent and rich, and it illuminates the Archive's "divine feminine" Venusians from several directions. The connections to the Archive's beings remain interpretive.

Venus among the rulers

Ancient cosmology placed Venus among the seven planetary spheres — Saturn, Jupiter, Mars, the Sun, Venus, Mercury and the Moon — each of which, in early Gnostic systems, was "presided over… by a different archon."^[1] In the Pistis Sophia, the risen Jesus explains that rebellious rulers were bound into a "Fate-sphere," with five great rulers set over them "who in the whole world of mankind are called with these names: the first is called Kronos, the second Arēs, the third Hermēs, the fourth Aphroditē, the fifth Zeus."^[2] Aphrodite — the Greek Venus — is thus one of the planetary regents of Fate. A power of Sophia bound to Aphrodite

Yet the very next chapter adds a remarkable detail. When these regents were bound, a higher power was placed within each. Into Aphrodite was placed a power drawn from Wisdom herself: "he drew a power out of the Pistis the Sophia daughter of Barbēlō and bound it to Aphroditē." The text also gives Aphrodite's "incorruptible name" as Chōsi.^[3] In other words, the Pistis Sophia places a spark of Sophia, the divine feminine Wisdom of the Pleroma, inside the planet of love and beauty. For a reader of the Alien Archive, this is perhaps the most direct ancient parallel in the whole collection: Venus as a carrier of feminine divine wisdom within a structured cosmos, exactly the "divine feminine" and "emotional wisdom" the Archive attributes to Venusians.

The day of Aphrodite

On the Origin of the World describes three Adams: "the first Adam, (Adam) of Light, is spirit-endowed and appeared on the first day. The second Adam is soul-endowed and appeared on the sixth day, which is called Aphrodite."^[4] The sixth day of the planetary week was Venus's day (still vendredi and viernes in French and Spanish). In this text, the Venus-day is the day of the soul — the psychic, emotional level of the human being, between spirit and earth. That is precisely the layer the Archive's Venusians work on: "emotional intuition, inspiration, artistic expression." See Pneumatics, Psychics and Hylics.

Eros, the lamp that lights many lamps

The same treatise gives an unusually tender image of love in the cosmos. Eros appears "being androgynous," "very lovely in his beauty," and all the powers become enamored of him: "appearing in all of them, he set them afire: just as from a single lamp many lamps are lit, and one and the same light is there, but the lamp is not diminished."^[4] Love, in this passage, spreads without loss — a close cousin of the Archive's Venusians, who "inspire… compassion, creativity, and harmonious social evolution."

The morning star and the light-bearer

As morning star, Venus carries one of the richest names in Western religion. The Latin Lucifer means "light-bringer" and was the Roman name for Venus as morning star, equivalent to the Greek Phosphoros or Eosphoros.^[5] Christian scripture also applies the morning-star image to Christ, who says in the Book of Revelation, "I am the root and the offspring of David, and the bright and morning star" (Revelation 22:16), and promises the faithful, "I will give him the morning star" (Revelation 2:28).^[6][7] The figure was contested even in antiquity: some Gnostic sects are said to have identified Lucifer with the Old Testament creator god, while Helena Blavatsky's Theosophical journal Lucifer reclaimed the name as "the spirit of intellectual enlightenment and freedom of thought."^[5] The Archive's luminous Venusians inherit the positive side of this long symbolism: the star that heralds the dawn. Background and history

The planet

Venus is the second planet from the Sun and Earth's closest planetary neighbor, the third-brightest object in the sky after the Sun and Moon. It is also the hottest planet in the solar system, at about 872 °F (467 °C), under a crushing carbon-dioxide atmosphere with clouds of sulfuric acid and a surface pressure about 93 times that at sea level on Earth. Venus spins backward compared with most planets, so the Sun would rise in the west. It is named for the Roman goddess of love and beauty, known to the Greeks as Aphrodite — the only planet named after a female god.^[8] These conditions are why the Archive, like most modern Venusian lore, locates its beings in "subtle energetic layers" or "ancient epochs" rather than on the present surface.

George Adamski and Orthon

The Venusian is the founding figure of the modern contactee movement. The Polish-American George Adamski (1891–1965) claimed that on 20 November 1952, near Desert Center, California, he met a Venusian named Orthon, with "long blond hair and tanned skin," who communicated by telepathy and hand signals. Adamski co-wrote Flying Saucers Have Landed (1953) with Desmond Leslie and wrote Inside the Space Ships (1955); the books sold about 200,000 copies combined by 1960.^[9] His photographs were extensively debunked; investigators identified parts of his famous "scout ship" as a chicken brooder, light bulbs and a 1930s pressurized-gas lantern.^[9] Adamski's Orthon became the model for the tall, beautiful, human-looking "Nordic" extraterrestrial, later relocated in popular lore to the Pleiades (see Pleiadeans).^[10]

The Law of One and a golden race

Venus reappears in the channeled Law of One (the "Ra Material"), received by L/L Research between 1981 and 1984.^[11] There the entity Ra describes itself as a collective that "voyaged outward from another planet within your own solar system… The planetary influence was that you call Venus," and adds: "When we were at the sixth dimension our physical beings were what you would call golden. We were tall and somewhat delicate."^[12] The golden skin and higher-dimensional framing are close to the Archive's own description of Venusians. Interestingly, in the same session Ra says it is "no longer of Venus," and suggests that 1950s reports of contact from Venus drew on "thought-forms created among your peoples from our time of walking among you."^[12]
